Mawwiage is what brings us together on this web page today.
We believe that marriage is a wonderful gift from God that blesses both us and our community. Marriage is a picture of the relationship that Jesus Christ has with his people here on earth. He, as the groom, loves us always and sacrifices himself for our benefit. We, as the bride, love him also by respecting him and trusting that he has our best interests in mind. This marriage works so well because Jesus is doing all of the work.
Marriages between broken people aren't as beautiful. They are full of mistakes, misunderstandings, and mistrust. Our marriage will not be safe from this either, because we are both imperfect people.
BUT, there is good news!! Jesus is willing to help us out with our marriage. More than help, he promises to keep us together through the mess of life. When we try our best but fail to love each other well, he will hold us together and show us what true love looks like. The only reason we are able to love and forgive each other is because of the abundance of love and forgiveness we have experienced from Jesus.
God has been so faithful and good in dating and engagement, and we are excited to see what marriage holds for us as we learn from the example of Christ!
This breakdown of marriage is not unique. God talks about marriage a lot in the Bible. We found these three main points in A Marriage Booklet for Simple Pastors by Martin Luther. His sermon explains:
- where marriage comes from and what it is,
- Genesis 2:18, 21-24; Ephesians 5:22-29
- the curse that comes with marriage due to sin,
- Genesis 3:16-19
- and the comfort found in trusting Jesus to sustain and bless the marriage despite its brokenness.
- Genesis 1:27, 28, 31; Proverbs 18:22; Ephesians 5:25-32
